Who do we help?

We help homeowners who want to either build a new home or extend and refurbish their existing home. We like to help people to build homes that are energy efficient, adaptable, comfortable, sustainable, and connect people with nature and their immediate surroundings. If you’re looking to build an eco-friendly home to live in forever more, we’d love to help you. We understand that time may no longer equal money and that you’d like to settle into a new, more relaxed lifestyle, secure in the knowledge that your new home will be economical to run and will live up to your highest expectations and dreams.

If you are looking to build a new home to live better as a family, we’d love to work with you to realise your aspirations too. We understand that your family may be expanding and so is the need for bathrooms, utility rooms, flexible home working spaces, multi-purpose living areas and kitchen space. If you don’t know where to start, let us help guide you through the planning maze and the confusion of techno-babble so that you can relax and enjoy the design and build of your new home. If you are looking to extend and renovate your home to create more space and become more energy efficient, we’d love to help you get there. We understand that making changes to your home can be stressful so we provide a stress-free process that will reduce the risk of project cost and time over-runs. We also know that good modern design will deliver 10-15% more value on your property. Finally, if you are looking to your garden for a working from home solution, we’d love to help you with our unique PassivPod garden office designs or alternatively a bespoke low impact, low energy solution to your working needs.

Who is Koru?

Koru Architects is my practice.  My name is Mark and I’m a chartered architect who cares deeply about the health and wellbeing of people and our natural environment. My journey into the world of environmental sustainability began in the early 1990s when, only a few years post qualification, I gave up my career in a high-profile architect’s practice and embarked on travel adventures across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. By the time I returned I’d witnessed wide-scale environmental devastation and the effects of climate change in many poorer parts of the world while the wealthy developed nations had barely noticed anything was wrong. I could see clearly what was coming and made it my mission to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. I made lifestyle changes and resolved to make a difference in both my personal and professional life. In March 2020 I established Koru Architects with the intention of designing sustainable, low-energy buildings which would reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of healthy, natural and sustainable materials. I studied and trained extensively and put my new skills to practice with a string of healthy, low-energy homes that followed.

In the last few years, I have been recognised by the Sunday Times, the Green Apple Award for the Built Environment and Brighton & Hove Business Awards for providing sustainable and energy secure homes. The RIBA have also acknowledged my commitment to eco design and awarded me with the Downland Prize for Sustainability for my own zero carbon home.

Mission Possible

At Koru Architects our mission is to design only zero carbon homes by 2025 that are beautiful, comfortable and healthy for you and your family. Please help us achieve that goal and let us create your dream with you.
